Tuscany is where Italy reveals its soul. The landscape that inspired Leonardo, Botticelli and the Renaissance masters continues to captivate couples from around the world — from the iconic cypress-lined roads of Val d’Orcia to the medieval towers of San Gimignano, from the Chianti vineyards to the grand palazzi of Florence.

As a Tuscany wedding photographer, I’ve worked across every corner of the region: at ultra-exclusive estates like Villa Cetinale near Siena, inside the roofless walls of San Galgano Abbey, at Ferragamo’s Il Borro in Valdarno, and in the Renaissance gardens of Villa Gamberaia overlooking Florence.

Val d’Orcia — A UNESCO World Heritage Wedding Backdrop

The Val d’Orcia offers perhaps the most photographed landscape in Italy. Rolling hills, lone cypress trees, medieval hilltop towns like Pienza and Montepulciano — a backdrop that feels almost too perfect to be real. I’ve photographed weddings here in every season, at venues like Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco and Villa La Foce, whose iconic winding road was immortalized in Iris Origo’s memoir. The light in this valley is extraordinary, especially during the golden hour when the hills glow amber and every photograph becomes a painting.

Castle and Villa Weddings in Chianti and Siena

Between Florence and Siena, the Chianti hills are home to some of the most prestigious wedding venues in Tuscany. Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte — originally purchased by Lorenzo de’ Medici in 1480 — and Villa Mangiacane, the Machiavelli family estate, offer couples a direct connection to the Italian Renaissance. For a more dramatic setting, 13th-century castles like Castello di Celsa and Castello di Vincigliata provide crenellated towers, frescoed halls and panoramic terraces.

Many of these estates are also working wine producers, so your guests can enjoy Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino or Super Tuscan wines grown on the very land where you exchange your vows.

The Tuscan Table

No Tuscan wedding is complete without exceptional food and wine. From intimate dinners in candlelit wine cellars at Castello Banfi to grand al fresco feasts under the stars at a Chianti borgo, the culinary experience is central to every celebration. I always capture these moments — the clinking glasses, the shared plates of pici and bistecca fiorentina, the joy of good company around a long table.

Florence — Art, History and Luxury

For couples who want a city wedding without sacrificing grandeur, Florence offers venues like the Four Seasons (set within two Renaissance palaces with the city’s largest private garden) and Villa Cora, whose Hall of Mirrors evokes Versailles. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West married at Forte di Belvedere with panoramic views of Brunelleschi’s Dome — a reminder that Florence is not just a museum, but a living stage for extraordinary celebrations.

Your Destination Wedding in Tuscany

Tuscany is remarkably accessible: Florence and Pisa airports serve international flights, and Rome Fiumicino is just 2-3 hours south. Whether you dream of an intimate elopement among the olive groves or a 300-guest celebration in a medieval village, Tuscany offers the full spectrum — and I consider it a privilege to document these stories in the landscape that first taught the world about beauty.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ideal months for a Tuscan wedding are May through October. Late May and June offer perfect temperatures (22-28°C), lush green landscapes, and blooming wildflowers. September is arguably the most beautiful month, with harvest season, golden light, and fewer crowds. July and August are hot (up to 38°C) but perfect for evening al fresco celebrations. Many couples choose October for the grape harvest and stunning autumn foliage in Chianti.
Tuscany wedding costs depend heavily on the venue. Exclusive estates like Villa Cetinale or Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco can cost €30,000-80,000+ for venue hire alone. A full destination wedding in Tuscany including venue, catering, wine, flowers, and photography typically ranges from €50,000 to €200,000+. More affordable options exist at smaller agriturismi and wine estates, where complete celebrations start from around €15,000-25,000.
Florence Airport (FLR) has direct European connections, while Pisa Airport (PSA) offers more international flights and is just 1 hour from Chianti by car. Rome Fiumicino (FCO) is 2.5-3 hours south. Most couples arrange group transfers or a fleet of minivans from the nearest airport to the wedding venue. Many Tuscan estates are in rural locations, so private transport is essential.
Yes. Civil ceremonies can be performed at authorized town halls and select venues across Tuscany. Some estates like Villa Medicea di Lilliano are officially licensed for civil ceremonies on-site. Catholic weddings can be held in local churches and parish chapels. Non-EU couples need a Nulla Osta from their embassy and must complete paperwork at the local comune 2-4 days before the wedding.
Tuscany is a magnificent elopement destination. Popular choices include a sunrise ceremony among the cypress trees of Val d'Orcia, an intimate vow exchange in a Chianti vineyard, or a private celebration in the ruins of San Galgano Abbey. The region's beauty is so photogenic that even a simple ceremony for two produces extraordinary images. Elopement packages including photography, officiant, and flowers can start from €3,000-5,000.
Tuscan wedding cuisine is legendary. Expect multi-course dinners featuring local specialties: crostini toscani, pici al ragù, bistecca alla fiorentina, and artisan pecorino cheese — paired with wines from the estate itself. Many venues like Castello Banfi and Villa Mangiacane are working wineries producing Brunello, Chianti Classico, and Super Tuscan wines. Farm-to-table dining, often in candlelit wine cellars or under the stars, is a hallmark of the Tuscan wedding experience.
Tuscany offers the most painterly landscape in Italy. The rolling Val d'Orcia hills, lone cypress trees, medieval hilltop towns, and golden light inspired Renaissance masters and continue to create extraordinary wedding photographs. The variety is remarkable: from roofless abbey ruins to grand castle terraces, from intimate olive groves to vast vineyard panoramas. The famous 'Tuscan golden hour' produces a warm, amber light that flatters every skin tone and creates a timeless, romantic atmosphere.
