WPPI 2019 - Silver Award, cat. Album Single Photographer

This year I entered “The Annual Competition” of WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) for the first time in my career, and I’m proud I’ve got a Silver Award with Ida & Jakob’s album, in the Album Single Photographer category.

I worked a lot to put the story together in the form of a printed work, as per request of the association, with a maximum of 50 spreads (one spread = the two open album pages). Normally my stories are longer and more detailed… synthesis is always a hard work to do. I had to renounce to a lot of photos I loved, in the name of space and numbers. In the end, it looks like it worked somehow!
(here you can find a longer and slightly different version of the same story)

The beautiful light of Villa Regina Teodolinda and the colors of sparkling daytime and sunset in Lake Como did the job. Thanks to the energy of my clients and their guests, the story has been powerful and dynamic as I like. Sunlake Catering took care of the food and Blunotte Eventi curated the lighting and music.

The album itself is an experiment about mixing the theathrical concept of "act", in which there is usually a discontinuity of space and time between the scenes represented, with the art of wedding reportage. The discontinuity is also provided visually, using an alternation of color and black & white processing. An alternation that has also been very challenging and yet powerful, due to the different visual aspects that color and bw photography emphasize, as well as concordance between processing and mood, and the cultural references involved.

I hope you’ll like this work… Please share your feedback! : )
